IPv6: Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages and Disadvantages of Internet Protocol Version 6:

Advantages:
  • Provides more address space ( which is being needed in larger buisness scales-example comcast)
  • More powerful internet (128bit versus IPv4's current 32 bit)
  • Offers and overall larger scale internet-which again will be needed in the future
  • Address allocation is done by the device itself
  • Support for security using (IPsec) Internet Protocol Security
Disadvantages:
  • It will be much harder to remember IP addresses (compared to the addresses now)
  • Creating a smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6
  • IPv6 is not available to machines that run IPv4
  • Any consumer costs in having to replace an IPv4 machine
  • Time to convert over to IPv6

      Its the number of possible ip combinations, for ipv4 its 256x256x256x256 -> 2^4^8 = 2^32, which is 32 bit

      That means there are 4.29 billion addresses, which will probably not be enough in future

    internet is the most giving lot of information... suppose the internet is not use all IP addresses only recuquired addresses .. another think the internet is the must to all college students and well users .. we can't provide allocated ip addresses ..

Disadvantages: Not widely spread, access only possible using manual tunnel
